Our Forest

Msitu is Swahili for forest. It is also the whole recipe.

Deep in Kenya's indigenous woodland, our hives hang in the branches where wild colonies already choose to live. No fields, no feeding, no interference — just bees working blossom that has grown here for generations.

Each colony is left to build comb its own way. We take only the capped honey, and only when there is enough to spare — the rest stays with the bees through the dry season.

The comb is cut by hand, drained cold, strained of wax, and poured. Between the branch and your jar, nothing else happens to it.

“We don’t flavour the honey. The forest does.”

The Msitu Promise

Four things we will not compromise.

  • 01

    Truly Raw

Never heated, never pasteurised. The enzymes, pollen and aroma stay exactly as the bees made them.

  • 02

    Wild Forage

Our bees forage indigenous forest blossom — no monocrop fields, no sugar feeding, no shortcuts.

  • 03

    Unfiltered

Strained of wax only. Fine pollen and comb traces remain, so the honey may crystallise. That is a good sign.

  • 04

    Single Origin

One forest, one harvest, one jar at a time. Nothing blended in from anywhere else.

The Harvest

We work at night, when the forest is calm.

Harvesting after dark keeps the colony settled and the comb intact. Smoke, patience and a headtorch — the same way it has always been done here, done carefully so the hive is still thriving next season.

Night Work

Harvested Under Moonlight

We gather our honey after dark, when the hive is calm and the bees are at rest. It's slower, quieter, and gentler on the colony — and it's how the purest comb makes its way from the wild forest to your jar. Every harvest is done by hand, by torchlight, deep among the trees.

From the Wild

The story in every jar.

Deep in Kenya’s indigenous forests, our harvesters climb to hidden hives after dark. What they carry back — heavy, dripping combs of pure wild honey — is exactly what we press into every Msitu Gold jar. Nothing added. Nothing taken away.

A deeper harvest

The Reward of Patience

Not all honey is harvested at the same moment. When we let the bees finish their work — fully ripening and sealing every cell — the comb deepens to a rich amber-brown. This is mature, fully-capped honey: thicker, darker, and more intense in flavour, with the deep character that only time in the wild can create. Darker forest honey like this is prized for its bold taste and richness. At Msitu Gold, we don’t rush nature. We let the forest decide when the honey is ready.

  • Fully ripened & capped
  • Deeper, bolder flavour
  • Rich, mature amber
